"Superb performances across the cultural divide show that great art transcends political differences. May thine enemy buy it also." Rick Jones, The Times, 8.10.2005

"Altogether a fascinating, attractive, beautifully performed album."
Barry Witherden, The Gramophone 3/2006 (Editor's choice of the month)

"Throughout the recording, moments of beauty and peace emerge. By the time the recording has ended, one is left with a blissful feeling and they may say to themselves, yes, there is a loving God which is reflected in all creatures. Sacred Bridges is just that, a bridge between sacred traditions, an extension of one's hand to another and a musical embrace that has the ability to touch many souls. … This recording will pave the way as it calms our minds and our hearts, allowing us to appreciate those who live differently than us. Viva la difference!" Cranky Crow World Music, 9-12, 2005

Jewish, Christian and Muslim Psalm Settings from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Compositions by S. Rossi, Th. de Bèze, C. Goudimel, J. P. Sweelinck & Ali Ufki.

Jews, Christians and Muslims sing and listen to songs of lament and joy, confessions of sin, songs of praise and glory. In this cooperative program, psalm settings by composers from three cultures and religions, but the same epoch, build bridges crossing today's ruptures. Psalms can serve as a source of spirituality but also as political tools:

With his polyphonic psalm settings, Salamone Rossi intended to save Italian-Jewish culture in the first European ghetto in Mantua. Alî Ufkî / Wojciech Bobowski transformed melodies from the Genevan Psalter into authentic Ottoman-Turkish music, because he wanted to give the muslim-calvinist alliance against the catholic Habsburg empire a common musical voice.

Most of all, psalms can serve as a path leading humans together. In our performance, Salamone Rossi’s, Claude Goudimel’s, and J. P. Sweelinck’s polyphonic psalm settings blend with Alî Ufkî’s powerful Turkish lyrics and monophony , generating a colorful but seamless and natural musical flow - building sacred bridges between peoples, religions, between human beings.
